1993 7.3 turbo motor complete, but for core purposes only Memphis TN

I hear ya, Eli- not many IDIs around my area. As far as parting it out- the turbo isn't in my way- the massive engine taking up one of my heavy duty engine stands is and I've got cummins engines that need to go on stands. (Don't hate me). I'd take $500 for the whole turbo kit plus shipping but...

1993 7.3 turbo motor complete, but for core purposes only Memphis TN

Yeah- turbo is included all piping, etc. had about 225k on it when I pulled it I think. I wouldn't install any of this without tearing it down first. We pulled it for oil consumption issues. Don't know if it was rings or the turbo causing it to use oil. But we had a known good spare engine we...

1993 7.3 turbo motor complete, but for core purposes only Memphis TN

I have not been into IDI's in couple of years but I have my factory turbo engine on a stand in my shop and would like it gone. It's complete but was consuming oil pretty bad so I swapped it out for a good running 7.3 non turbo a while back. It's all there, sans belt drive system. The factory...

Nice looking truck, and it looks like you work yours regularly too. Where in Tennessee did you get it?

AUTO RX users, a few questions...............

Thanks for all the input guys. I changed it yesterday and added the Auto Rx in with the 15-40 Motorcraft Superduty Oil. That auto Rx is like tar! Took forever to drain thru the funnel. And I guess I will order an extra bottle or two to add when I top it up. The only thing that concerns me is...

AUTO RX users, a few questions...............

So I took the bait, and bought some snake oil to try and see if I can revive my tired IDI. My problems are low compression, heavy oil consumption, blowby, and smoking. The truck runs well otherwise, just trying to see if I can buy some time before a re-build or Cummins swap. I've seen several...

What is the difference between add and full on the dipstick?

Maybe this is why ive been burning 2 quarts a month? Ive been maintaining the add mark and its drinking oil till it gets a hair above the ADD line in the cross-hatching then it stops burning it that badly:dunno Maybe ive been overfilling the hell out of it.................

    Additives in the fuel

No one here uses the Stanadyne Performance Additive?:dunno I do. I buy a case every year from Taylor Diesel and I've never HAD to put an IP or injectors in any of my IDI's ever. Never had a gelling problem either. I figure if Stanadyne made our original parts then they must be making an additive...

    Truck repair saga, semi-carnage pics

Don't say that man, just remember its an old(er) truck and things will break when you go messing with brittle parts that have been subjected to the elements for almost 24 years. It looks like youve got a pretty solid rig there, just in need of some lovin' after a long life of working hard. Trust...

    Why serpentine?

I had the same problems with my serp belt until I replaced the idler and tensioner pulleys with genuine Ford parts. All is well now. And I am a firm believer in the tensioner with the damper on it. It was a tough item to find, but well worth the money in my opinion.

How to replace your mechanical fuel pump with a Facet Duralift electric fuel pump

Im collecting parts to do this as well, VERY nice writeup, great pics, and thanks for the nod to rhkcommander for explaining the wiring. I understand it now. The only thing i still am not sure about is what relay to use. Just need to know what to askfor when I go looking for it. I'm kinda a...

    Emergency injector line

X2. Looks like cheap insurance, even if it only worked for an hour or two, it would get you out of a jam. As to the donut spares, here in Memphis, on almost a weekly basis I see crappy cars running around with sometimes multiple donut spares on the car.:dunno Funny thing is, they are always...

Another winch bumper option for 92-96 trucks

Yea Darrin, thats one of the limited run that ARB had for the 87-91 Broncos. Apparently they only made like 15 or so. Back then, ARB wasn't widely distributed stateside and to get one you had to find a dealer and order one and play the waiting game for it to come from their factory in Australia...

Another winch bumper option for 92-96 trucks

Just out of curiosity, if you wired the indicators supplied with the bumper to your turn signals would that be legit? Thats the way ive always wired mine............:dunno I know those inspections yall go thru up there can literally mean the last dance for our trucks of advancing age...

Another winch bumper option for 92-96 trucks

after I mount the winch, im going to make some strengthening gussets and plates to weld from the bumper to the frame as well as a cross brace between the inside edges of the bumper and frame with some 1-5/8" DOM for side to side support. Looks good I think.......

Another winch bumper option for 92-96 trucks

Been wanting a bumper to mount the 12k warn ive had in storage for years but just havent found anything i really liked for 92-96 style trucks, not that there are many options out there. Warn used to make some nice ones, but they have been discontinued as well as a few other companies that made...
