for paint inside the cowl, perhaps use a shutz gun with w hose end, and taper it down to a small diameter so its not coming out at a galloin a minute, then just direct the spray?

Sigh. Thwarted by my own attempts to organize. I went to fit the firewall reinforcement plate and wouldn't you know it, I packed all the leftover hardware up and put it in the shed last night trying to make room.

So I started finishing the medal work on the drivers cab corner. Started beating on it and the rain was so loud on the garage I couldn't take it. It was drowning out the pounding on the metal. So tonight, I accomplished nothing but a couple measurements.

I'm going to try this for a rear side window seal. I'll let you know how it works.

Well, it's been a while. I've spent too much time trying to do this:

The quest for a better paint job: Step 1 Paint Booth
http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=74603

Needless to say it looks as though winter has hit me squarely in the buttocks. Time to shift gears and get this thing back on track. Not like I don't have plenty of other stuff to do.

So it's time to attack the rest of the mechanical.

Here is my short list.

1. Get steering column re-installed.

2. Clutch/firewall reinforcement plate installed.

3. Firewall painted. (Not sure with what yet)

4. Install hydroboost/ master and complete brake system. That means adding rear brakes and maybe axle seals while I'm in there.

5. Pull valve covers off engines and see what I see.

6. Compression test other engine.

7. Decide on core, write large check to promar.

8. Clips for OBS windows.

9. Seatbelt brackets for rear shoulder belts

10. Paint inside cab floor (probably with Bed liner).

In no particular order but my hope is to get the engine ordered to have it delivered before Christmas break. May not make that but I would like to at least tear down over Christmas break so I can get all the bits ready to go on the new motor.

I think that's my hit list for now. If I can just stick with it for a bit.

I was planning on blacking out the engine compartment. The fenders and good are getting black epoxy primer. I was even going to leave the core support black. May change my mind before then. Who knows.

Well, I've made a little progress. Mostly captured in This thread and another that I'll link.

DMF condition Test
http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75254

Compression test results.
http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=70080

Bottom line is that compression test of engine #2 from the parts truck revealed it was really tired. As such, it makes sense to send it as the core for the Promar engine. So I swapped the flex plate and DMF so that I could roll it over easy once in a while. I pulled fuel through the system until it was running out the return lines so the pump has fuel in it at least.

While moving things around I noticed the drivers side manifold is cracked. [emoji35]

Otherwise, I want to keep this a complete drop in runner. I may rob some parts off it that are cleaner than the ones on the other engine but I'll try to keep it a complete backup.

So now the dilemma. Do I go ahead and tear down the engine and get ready for the swap or do I keep working on the other things that need done.

Still have things like brakes and steering that need attention. Lots of odds and ends.

need a manifold?

i would finish the things you gotta do on the truck first.

my engine is near completion but i cant do anything with it until i get the truck done.

but the reality is, do what you feel like working on.

sometimes taking a break and working on something else is refreshing.

I'm with you there. I think it will be a huge let down if I can't at least start it and move it or something. Right now there's no brakes and no steering. Well there's not a lot of things. It was a great change up to play with the engines instead of sheet metal. Maybe the kick I need to really get rolling again.

As far as the manifold, I don't need one right now. The two on the other engine look okay. But I'll let you know if that changes. [emoji15]

Glad you are still after it and making progress Mike. I'd say just keep making lists of all that needs to be done, and do whatever things on the list that the weather will allow.

It's been a tough year. If you look back at this thread, I was trying to paint the cab last October. Took me from like April this year to get the cab corners in. Been a lot of things and family get in the way (not all bad mind you) but for my sanity this thing has got to wrap up to at least useable this year. I just can't have it keep dragging on... It depresses me something fierce. I think this winter will be a little milder compared to last year and I'm better ready for it so I'm hoping for productivity.

Work on what you got ambition for. Oh and parts. Mix it up. It's easier to stay motivated.

Your getting there. This is a huge project and they take time. I figure over a year I get 5-10 hours a week to work on stuff. I'm guessing your in a similar place.

Also I would highly recommend buying stuff were you can. New bolts vs cleaning up old ones etc. dorman parts for door handles, door pins, pedal covers etc. stuffs dirt cheap.

Keep after it!
