What is that brake lock for is it like a parking brake

the short of it is yes im using it as a parking brake, but its not dot legal so not the best set up. issue i have is that im running a 10.25 diff out of a 1992 f250 in the back of the truck so cables would not match up. now yes i could have made something work but all the cables on the 79 were rusted and im going to rear disc soon so i will lose the ebrake then anyways. with the lock off it works just fine and will do till i need to get a mechanical set up

Oh man as always great stuff...

He whats the scoop on HW...u using that chassis?

What is left of it?

Love that Ammo Can console, It gives me some ideas for a console...

Please, keep on posting cause regardless of the IDI bein done that truck will continue to get worked on and I'm sure that besides myself many here would like to see and hear more from you.

Just sayin...GOOD WORK

Al

BTW..ifn you get down this way...let me know n stop off for beverage!

thanks man and nothing other then the cab with a cage and a cut up frame left sitting in a field and a beat up front clip. had a guy say he was going to buy the cab for the cage but have yet to see any $ so it will sit there till i do something with it or just cut it up for scrap steel

next time im going to be down that way will be end of june for the Penticton show and shine and planning on having the 79 there for it even if its before the body work gets done

what a crazy busy weekend but got some good updates on this. did an exh job on a Toyota on sunday and did a ps pump today on bronco but still with a little help from a friend got some time in on the truck and made some progress

got the springs in and cross member in, diff under the truck and its all clean and ready for shocks and traction bar

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

cross member

You must be registered for see images attach

used some old ubolts that I had in the shed that were the right length and just snugged them down once I had the diff lined up right in the truck. put a small tack weld on the spring perches as when I bill the deck and get weight on the springs the pinion angle might change a bit so will weld them on then

You must be registered for see images attach

pinion angle is real close how it sits right now

You must be registered for see images attach

shackle angle right now with no real weight on the springs

You must be registered for see images attach

all done working in the shop so pulled it out side to get a real good feel of just how short it is now

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

and got the exh done too, side dump of course

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

so next weekend is start building the flat bed

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

had to rework my fuel filler neck a bit with some old exh tube

You must be registered for see images attach

with the help of huck was able to get the deck back on the truck and i welded in all my panels.

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

all the top parts are just stitch welded

You must be registered for see images attach

filler neck

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

and not going to lie I messed up and cut the main top sheet a little to short, was not going to cut another and end up with waste. went and picked up some small angle iron and welded that on the end of the deck to fill it and add a lip at the back to maybe keep stuff from sliding out

You must be registered for see images attach

rear bumper with light cut outs and trailer plug cut out and plate mount

You must be registered for see images attach

in that last pic you can see the two tires up on the deck and that's how I plan on running my two full size spares so had to make some mounts. did a tube hoop off the front of the deck and two tie down rings with my jack all mounts as well. then two more ring mounts that are just welded to bolts on the deck top

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

all painted

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

also need some side marker lights to keep the popo happy so after a few ideas came up with this. drilled out the end tube and picked up a pair of these small led lights

rear shocks, went with mx6 procomps as I had one so only needed to get one new one. might have to move them to the front of the truck as might be too long but will wait and see

You must be registered for see images attach

used the same TMR mounts top and bottom and just trimmed as needed

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

better pic of the small side marker in the deck

You must be registered for see images attach

was never able to find a tool box that would fit the open spots on the deck so picked up some ammo boxes and they will do the job

You must be registered for see images attach

welded on some hinges so they will open from the one side only

You must be registered for see images attach

and locks to make sure my gear stays there

You must be registered for see images attach

shovel mounted on the side of the frame as didn't want it to take up deck space

You must be registered for see images attach

side shot

You must be registered for see images attach

as you can see in this pic the front of the truck is sitting a little low so that next weekends project. also not really liking how the exh its kind a out there, but have an idea for that down the road so will have to just live with it for now.

got the rear drive shaft done today as local drivetrain shop did not want to do anything for me *** so picked up some tube and made my own out of the one off the haywagon as it was in good shape. took it for a drive and got up to 90km/h and was smooth so hope it will be good with out having to get balanced

pulled the front 60 apart as was in need of new ujoints, bearings all looked good so after a little cleaning up and paint just put it back together

You must be registered for see images attach

and got ujoints from work that are spicer joints in a ford bag for cheaper then spicer ones

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

also got my mud flaps on so im legal and tires are covered. they are pinned so can pull them off if needed

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

still have some more to do like the 1inch lift up front a few small things but truck is at home and drivable for now

spent a few mins last night finishing up trailer brake controller wiring as went and got the deck over from friends place tonight after work. while I was there I just had to get a pic of my 79 next to his 92 F250, this is were all my diffs and suspension went from the Haywagon. the thing is a beast on 44 boggers #rockon

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

and I thought mine was short with 20 inches less of frame, we took 24 from his

You must be registered for see images attach

and with his trailer hooked up, didn't have the tools to drop the hitch so trailer is high right now

You must be registered for see images attach

06/30/2013

so got my front lift done today so trucks not so crazy ass high

built my own upper spring perches as did a u bolt flip at the same time to gain a little extra clearance. for lift went with a 1inch Zero rate and the over load spring from my old rear leafs .

You must be registered for see images attach

to figure out were my bump stops needed to be I pulled the front leafs down to just he main and then built a wood filler block and maxed the front out

You must be registered for see images attach

have lots of room for the oil filter adapter and oil pan now, exh is still close but does not hit when I was at full up so will run it for now

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

finished product with bumps, add a leaf, zero rate and some used shocks that are longer

the only problem that I run into is the steering is now at to much of an angle so has crazy bump steer and is limiting my down travel. the bottom of the one tie rod just rubs on the one ubolt but does not stop the steering but can feel it when driving. want to do a cross over steering but not sure if it will clear my leaf springs now with the zero rate. might have to just go with a king pin spacer block for now, not the best but for the short term will work

well just to make it look that much better here is a pic of it with a trailer and loaded up with some scrape steel

I just re-read this build and just love the simplicity but great time and effort put into this. Here sits my project which hasn't been started and I feel lazy after checking yours out. I guess the only part that is really holding me back is choosing which vehicle to do because of the frame width differences, and that is my 77 F250 or the 73 F100.

I have such a huge charge to get back to my work after reading this again. The work you did was so clean and meticulously done but nothing that looks to be super expensive. Anyone can throw money at a project but it takes skill and talent to rebuild what could have been replaced instead. And thank you for providing such details that we can truly appreciate all the effort. ;Sweet

thank you very much ;Sweet

if you or anyone else out there is looking for some more detailed pics of description on anything I have done just ask and I will do my best

on a side note just got back from my lunch time trip to the scrapers wouldn't figure it buy looking at it but that 8foot box full of crap worked out to 1940 pounds

so truck and trailer went across the scales at 9400pounds once empty

long time since ive updated and lots has happened

07/08/2013

spent the weekend working on the steering but just couldn't seem to win and wish I just stayed home instead. not even 30mins after starting this project I was stung buy a wasp on my hand so didn't take long for it to swell up

after adding some lift the steering was not happy as the short tie rod from the knuckle to pitman was as a real bad angle. could have tried a spacer block for the steering arm but was already having issues with the tie rod rubbing on the ubolts and a spacer would have made it even worse.

old set up

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

so plan was to do a Y link set up as do not have room for crossover as it would be real close to the oil pan. after some reading online was told I need to run a pitman off a 80-97 truck or bronco. went and pulled one out of the shed but the master splines do not line up so filled them down into regular splines

before

You must be registered for see images attach

after

You must be registered for see images attach

reamed everything out for chevy tie rods then welded up some links and had a new steering set up that looked like this

You must be registered for see images attach

cleared the leafs at the pitman

You must be registered for see images attach

but hit the leaf spring at full lock

You must be registered for see images attach

at this point I was going to just run it as was pissed and my hand was really swollen and killing. bolted it all up and went for a test drive and all seemed good till almost back to the shop and heard a loud clunk. after looking every were to find it turns out the pitman was not tight on the splines. after trying a few things I was not able to get the pitman tight on the splines so figured my used pitman was not good and called it a day. went to the wrecker in the morning and got a used pitman but turns out it does the same thing, after lots of really bad words and rethinking figured I could get the 79 pitman to work. had to rotate it on the pitman and then switch the drag link around to make it work. also put a bend in the drag link to help clear the leafs.

new set up

You must be registered for see images attach

You must be registered for see images attach

so with the new set up I just had to go and try it out in the dirt
You must be registered for see images attach

went down the beaverly power line all the way down to the river
