I got a used harness froma 1992 F350 and put it on my 1993 F250 last night. The cold start advance/high idle didn't work on the F350, and I jsut figgured it to be a bad solenoid or sensor. The high idle/timing advance isn't working on my truck with the new harness, but it worked on the old harness. The glow plugs, and FSS work just fine (after some tweaking and splicing into the wiring nightmare in the cab ), I just can't get her to rev up with the advance on. I also did push putton plugs too. Works like a charm!

Can I just run a switched 12V to the high idle solenoid for warm up? I know that running 12V into the high idle will feed through the connector and into the cold start timing advance, and this is fine with me because it's only going to be used for cold starting, I am not runnng a PTO or anything else.

It is a problem with the harness, and I wanted to run a switched high idle anyways, but will it hurt it to have the timing advance on the same wire?

That's the way I ran mine for awhile, since my temp sensor switch is bad.

My harness was good, and all I did was slide a male spade into each slot on the sensor plug, and ran two wires into the cab to a switch so I had manual control of the fast idle and the cold advance. Problem is, I caught myself leaving it on all the time, and I didn't really notice any benefit during cold starting, so I took it back off. I didn't know what running the advance all the time would do to the engine, so I didn't want to risk forgetting and leaving it on again.

I just want it on there for first start up. I am going to splice in the piece of my harness and see if that's the problem, if not I will be going with a manual switch for cold starting only.

I found the wiring pretty simple, but it was hacked alll to hell. I have push button plugs now...and the WTS light is functioning. I just push the button until the WTS light goes out and hit the key. The only problem is the high idle/cold advance.

I thought that too, but the high idle worked before I changed teh wiring harness, so I think it may be in the harness I put on last night. I am going to splice it out and see what happens then.
