While changing Injector O-rings

Pulling off the inj lines and found this little cylinder thing on the return line. This is the first injector off the filter side

I believe they all (7.3l)come with this from factory.

Yes it's factory and it needs to be there.

If you want to get rid of it, you will need to replace the #1 line with one from a 6.9.
