Which cylinder is Number 1

This is sort of a dumb question because I used to know this. Which cylinder is number 1? I know one side is 2,4,6,8 and the other side is 1,3,5,7.

Next week I am removing just about everything from the top of the engine and replacing the lines, injectors, glow plugs, thermostat, and adding senders for oil and water temperature.

I assume it will take a few days to do everything I need to do and I also assume I will forget which line was where, so I need a written reference.

I have another pic from that engine of yours it really looks good with that paint , did you reman it your self? got the parts from HI or different stores? if so, do you have a list?

Gees, I want some of those red fuel injection lines. That would be the shiniest part of my truck.
