The local ford dealer replaced a perfectly good running IDIT for a customer that is extremely meticulous. I want to try and buy the core. How do I find out what it's worth to them because I would only want to pay their core cost. Obviously I don't want to pay the crooked stealership any profit on it.

Call them and ask what the core value is. Make them say.. then go in and offer them just that amount. I'm gueing it really depends on how much of the engine you get in this deal. If you get a bare long block with all the metal finishing then I say go for it. You may get a complete running engine too if the owner wanted that kind of replacement too.

A good running idi is worth a mn of $500. If its good, and u get it for that or less ur doing fine....

I'd say the $500.00 quote from dragrag is a bit proud. Maybe more towards $350.00 or so. But calling them with a "story" like.. My turbo idi threw a rod. Whats the core charge for my engine I have to pay".....
