It looks like part of an original muffler/exhaust hanger. I'll bet you found it hanging around underneath your truck.

Its called a "dampener" by the engineers (same ones that fell asleep after the better idea)
Supposed to be a isolator of sorts...
But rather became a rock grabber!

Ok I was wrong then. That's what I call a head banger because that's all I can see it being good for. Yes that is experience talking.

That's what the cable attached to when they launched these off aircraft carriers.
It looks like my 87 F250 has it. Best pic i have of that thing right now.
My 85 E350 definitely doesn't have it, so it might just be an F-series thing?
