~4 months so far, in a knocking, chuffing engine with one cyl low on compression. That's why I didn't mind the risk

Well maybe your calculator is working just fine. I just ordered a set of zd9's. I am doing a compression test as I replace em so hopefully they will be worth it.

One of these days I'd like to do a rigorous stress test on a bunch of glowplugs with a straight shot of 12v off a battery... I unscientifically hooked up an autolite, beru, and some other brand to a battery for several minutes and didn't see any ill effects on any of them.

I'd venture to say that proper timing and healthy injectors would prolong the life of any glowplug, regardless of brand.

I have had wellmans in my 85 for three years now. I bought them with the 6.9 solid state controller that is also out on ebay. Have put about 70K on the truck, and the system seems to be working fine still.
Figured I would give them a try since they were american made.
