here is the number 8 combustion chamber of my idi ... found this nasty crack between the valves and into the intake valve seat i think there is a water jacket that runs through there lol.... so now i need to find a set of c3 heads... if any of yall local to me has a rebuilt or good set lmk

Well thats what I thought was goning to be the crack location. Heating up the oem heads will cause this often. I would be looking for a new set of 7.3 heads. They are amde heavier than what came originally. Better deck thickness is the important place for added material. There are several ebay sellers of new offshore heads. You can buy them complete ready yo bolt on or bare. Figure around $325.00 per head. A few years back I bought a set of bare new offshore heads for $102.50.. I couldn't pass up a new $50.00 head. I had family driving by where they were about 400 miles north of me so it was free shipping too. Dieselcast welding, alabama cylinder heads, clearwater cylinder heads just to name a few sell these heads. They also sell rebuilt heads too.

I'm not trying to throw a wrench in the works here, but is that crack a problem? On 4-cylinder VW diesel engines (the old 1.5s & 1.6s), cracks in this area between the valves were normal on an older motor and didn't usually cause any issues.

Can anybody else comment on this?

Any crack is a problem. It is only a matter of how big the problem can get.

In these heads, that crack is not uncommon and is usually benign. But the water jacket is only 1/2 inch away , so how much do you want to bet the crack is less than 1/2 inch deep? Me too. Fix it or toss it.

Notice Goober's avatar? The turbos will definitely speed up any problems you have in the cylinders.

looks like my VW head i just pulled, i had 3 of the 4 cylinders that looked like that. decided it was worth my time to replace the head and not have to worry about it.

differant application but same advise.

lol yea but this truck olny has a factory turbo (ats i think ) but u are right it can make things happen lol

as for the price of heads cheapest i have found them local is $500 per head ...
