'01 Excursion 4x4
A neighbor of mine just knocked on my door and threw a heck of a deal my way... It seems he bought a truck with a 7.3 IDI and shortly after buying it, it overheated and wiped out the head gaskets on it. He called the guy (a friend of his) and told him what had happened. The seller feeling bad about it and being a friend gave him a running 6.9 to drop in it. The buyer thought the motors wouldn't interchange
(first diesel), so he ordered up a crate 7.3 for the truck and had it and a Banks turbo installed. He has the old 7.3 and the running 6.9 sitting in his garage and told me that he noticed I seem to know some about these engine and can have both (with IP's, injectors, starters, the whole works) for $500
. I told him that I couldn't afford that right now
, but I'd post it on here and see if anybody was interested. He said that he's having a little trouble with his truck and that if I will get him two practice swords from the knife shop down the street and help him work on his truck, I can HAVE them in trade. What he doesn't know, is that it's my mother-in-laws bf that owns the knife store
, and I can get these practice swords pretty much at cost (Retail for $40 each, cost is like $15 each)
. Do you guys think I'd be stupid to pass up this offer? I'm thinking that even if the motors both turn out to be shot (I'm told that the 6.9 is good) that the IP's, injectors, starters, and alternators are worth the $30 cash I'd be out and a few hours of my labor to work on his truck. Now, where am I going to store these engines...
