After I put the flywheel on, I thought I would try and spin the motor over just to see what would happen. It spun but not very far, and plus I didnt have a good grip on it, but should it be a little difficult? It has new rings and pistons, and the heads are bolted down so I was hoping I was just feeling that 20.7:1 compression ratio.

It should be somewhat easy till you get a piston hitting tdc then its ridiculously hard. I needed a 2 ft cheater bar on my 1/2" wrench to get it to turn over.

yes there is a lot of resistance with the high comp ratio. i wouldn't be at all surprised if you could not grip the flywheel by hand enough to turn the engine over.

a socket wrench on the front crank pulley bolt will spin the motor if you're that worried about it
