First question can the switch that reads the clutch being pressed down go bad? Can it be bypassed?
It has power to everything and glow plugs are good and all. When I turn the key over nothing happens motor wise. Then on about every 10 try it will start and then I'll kill it and it won't start again. But it will make a clunking sound every once in a while trying to turn the key like the starter is trying to work but then nothing.

Tie together the two light green wires.

Also, on automatic transmission trucks, the wiring is there for this switch, but there is a factory jumper plugged in to jump the wiring. You can get the jumper out of any obs f series auto and plug it right in.

You must be registered for see images attach

Ok so here is the deal. I was able to get it to start 5 times in a row as long as I pushed down on the clutch very slowly.
If I do it fast it won't turn over. So I'm either making this problem up in my head that it's the clutch switch or it's the starter sticking I would think. Any ideas I am welcome to.

Sounds like a starter solenoid issue to me... but bypass the switch as described above. If that doesn't work, grab a hammer and tap on the starter motor and see if that makes a difference. If no... jump the solenoid on the fender and see if that works.

If jumping the solenoid on the fender works... that solenoid is dead or dying.

If smacking the starter works... well, the starter is due for a rebuild or replacement.

Also, check the trigger lead at the starter. Ive had the ring terminal get weak and break more then once.

He'll maybe it's the clutch it's self. I don't know. The clutch has at least 15,000 miles on it since I installed it. I didn't cut any corners either.

Clutch wont keep the truck from starting. Clutch safety switch could... but the clutch itself wont. (unless there are teeth missing on the flywheel ring gear)

What about oil on the starter it's self? My IDI does like to leak a couple qts of oil between oil changes and that **** gets every where including the starter.

That could be part of it. As for jumping the solenoid, one of the lugs is the trigger wire for the starter. One of the lugs is battery hot. Jump between those 2 lugs with a piece of loose wire or a screw driver. Make sure it's not in gear as the starter will engage..

Doing this bypasses everything except the solenoid on the starter itself.

I have a 1987 so it's probably wired differently, But; I stuck a mini ATO fuse in the two blade female harness on my clutch, it fit perfectly.

I bypass the clutch switch on all my vehicles as soon as I get them, it's a safety feature I really despise.

Well, the not so careful way to jump it is to stick a screwdriver across the big posts. If that works, jump 12v to the little post with the little wire pushed on. That's from the ignition switch. If that works, it may be the ignition switch.

It could be something goofy under the dash that moves when you push the clutch pedal. What year is it? The older trucks have the actuator in the column that likes to break. If it's cracked and bending it may not be pushing the rod far enough on the ignition switch.

Okay. Disregard the bit about the piece in the column. The rest should still be good.
