Since M5OD-R2's didn't come behind a diesel, I'm gonna go ahead and say it's a ZF, and that's before looking at the case.

What is on the driver side of the trans? Is that something coming out of the PTO?

Looks like the clutch slave hanging off the side of the bellhousing.

If its is a '95, diesel its the S42 variant of the ZF with the close ratios - 4.14:1 1st gear.

Not always. 95 was the cut off year for the 42-47. You could get either one
