Official GMM hand model
While surfing ebay in the 6.9 engine parts I found this and feel its a great example of what the timing cover looks like on both http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-84-85-86...ssories&hash=item257ec69657#ht_674wt_971sides. Seen on the front side is the timing tab with both probe locations. The tall skinny location is where my mag timing meter probe goes. Also seen on the cover is the three nuts welded to the surround of the main sel. Those are there to use the seal installer tool that rotunda made. Its a nice tool and I have used it. Now on the back side you can see the 4 nuts that the water pump fastens to and that they go thru into the oily side of the engine. So this is why those 4 bolts need the thread sealant on them. If you don't seal those threads oil surely will leak out and make a mess. Happened yo me only once till I learned this. Now look at the top nuts. Thats the area thats really close to the injection pump gear so those bolts have a special length. If they fit too deep they touch the gear and make all kinds of trouble including broken parts. Hope this helps others understand more about these engines that we talk about so much here...
