Back in Nov of '10 I bought a F250 4x4 dualie that needed some help. Somewhere is it's rough past, the previous owner(s) took a '88 F250 4x4 with a 7.3 idi and a C6 auto and did some serious work to it. The way I got it now is the original chassis, fitted with a OBS front clip, genuine dually conversion, and a T19 manual conversion. With the truck now in my posession, it's purpose will be more focused.
Back in the fading months of 2004 when I was flying low across the AZ desert in the '92 CC dually on 7 cyls, yes...7 cyls....I was thinking about just how bad it would be if my powerplant took the big **** on me. the truck already gave me plenty of warning when leaving Hamilton, TX the day before, but I have a flight to catch out of SFO to my posting overseas for the month and it was a flight I could not miss. So, by planes, trains, and automobiles, I had to make the flight. Long story short, I made it to San Jose, CA in two days non-stop. Alas, the motor was done. finished. kaput. but it got me to where I needed to go and I thank my truck for that. It now has yet another junkyard 7.3 with ATS 093 and ATS IC and still flies low across the CA, NM, AZ and TX desert.;Sweet
I knew I needed to build a "rescue" rig to recover my '92 if and when she does leave me stranded for real. But even if she never does, a reserve recovery rig is never a bad idea. To those of you who don't own a CC dually, a major breakdown in the middle of nowhere(most of the rural western states) is a very expensive proposition. With the ARS Sulaco in service, I can have the peace of mind where if the **** ever hits the fan, I have a backup plan in place to recover my primary rig.
So.... where to begin......
The truck as it sits today is a F250 4x4 with a 7.3 Banks WG turbo and a T19 trans behind it. There's also a BW1356 transfer case hooked to the ass of the trans. Oh yes, before the D60 front axle swap, the truck also had a D50 with 3.55 gears and a sterling 10.25 rear with 3,55 gears.
A couple of weekends ago, I swapped over a D60 front axle assy and let me tell ya, there's nothing like having a parts truck sitting quietly wanting to donate parts..;Sweet;Sweet;Sweet
now... the rest of the fun begins am Cl
So... sit back, hang on and enjoy the ride as it unfolds in the coming months..

there's actually more rebuilding going on that isn't talked about here.
I'd be boring you guys to death on the towtrucks. After all, all those trucks that die a cannibalized death, their parts do live on in many other trucks.;Sweet

I've built up and sold a couple trucks via parts obtained from towcat's gun and pawn...
:D

Thumbs up on the heavy duty recovery rig, I was wondering the other day what I would do if my truck gave up on me somewhere, Uhaul trailering is not an option for these beasts!

Now I know if it craps out we can pull another all-nighter to go pick it up! LOL Hope to god to never have to do that again, I can't take more verbal abuse from the spouse... :D

Dagg-nabbit Calvin!!!! All that teasing and not a single photo???!!!!:backoff:D

Going to keep an eye on this build. Again, I thought (like Ron) that your shop was like an organ harvest team for IDI's. Good to know some surgery on live patients is happening there too.

Truer words have never been spoken! I've lost track of how many trucks have donated parts to my truck, and this is BEFORE my next big project

Sounds like fun! I have some family issues going on at the moment, but once things calm down, am more than happy to offer a hand. Heaven knows you've done it often enough for me; would be happy to repay the favor. Thank you again ;Sweet

I've never seen it before I guess, but I really like the look of the OBS front clip on an older split-window cab!!! That is pretty sharp. And, it's a 4x4 D60 dually to boot.:hail

so there's been some comments around the shop of keeping the "cement mixer" look on the front end. I don't care for it, but it's easy to move back and forth if you have the parts to do so.
