stripped IP cover/manifold thread...

ok so i had oil leaking from under where the cdr use to be (have a banks turbo, so its relocated, so i just have the relocation block there) anyway theh passenger side hole is stripped. whats the easiest way i can fix this? i have a tap and rethread kit that i was going to use, but if there is another way to do it id like to hear it. i can go one bigger, like 3/8 but if there is another easier solution i would like to hear it. i would like to avoid pulling everything off because its a huge pain in the ass. i was going to put a threaded rod in there and go that way but the threads are too gone, it just pulled the last few threads out.. so..any ideas?

yikes. every option that i can think of involves drilling out the hole. good luck doing that on the motor.

im not either..so thats why i had to ask.. hoping someone has a brilliant idea.. its aluminum so i cant even use a magnet to keep the metal pieces from falling into the engine.. which is my main concernt right now.

does anyone have a spare one of these even. if im going to take it off i might as well put a "new" one on there..

These come up really often on Ebay so watch there. But for now just use some RTV and just install the bolt in the stripped hole as a place holder. The other side will keep things tight. Replacing this cover is an easy job but.... You can loose the gear timing easily so read all you can before the cover comes off...

You can use any 6.9 or 7.3 IP housing up to 94. The later ones have the screw in oil cap.

As posted above but this... Some have the tach sensor fitting and some don't. Otherwise they are really the same fitting part. Be sure to really clean out the slot where the front gear cover plate fits. Thats the worst place for an oil leak. Be sure the bolts are the correct length. You don't want them being ground off by the injection pump gear... Just use your old ones.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but are you talking about the "relocation block" that is covering the hole at the rear part of the intake manifold where the CDR used to be mounted? If so those are blind holes and won't dump any filings into anything, they'll just fall onto the intake bathtub.

i was with suv i thought he was talking about the bolt holes where the cdr origionally bolts to.

Well, now I'm confused about this. I thought you were talking about the front of the motor gear cover where the Banks CDR fitting mounts. But if you are talking about the original mount for the CDR behind the intake opening then you have some work on your hands. Thats the complete intake manifold your talking about. You will need to pull it off and drill and tap or just replace the intake manifold. They can be found on Ebay and any good wrecking yard. Probably a member here has an extra thay will sell you. I have several intakes because I find them really on the cheap side and do some porting on them for kicks. I even found a new intake on Ebay still in the original Ford box. I couldn't pass that deal up. When you pull the intake the trubo will need to come off and the intake valley pan has to be replaced because they have a crush fit. They are a one time use item and Northern Autoparts has the cheapest price on the Felpro pan. The part number is MS 96038.

ican, you are correct. its the one where the banks block mounts to, right in the front of the motor. above the water pump pretty much.

Well now... Thats a good read... Still taking that cover off the injection pump gear can be dangerous to the gear timing but there is plenty of writeups on how to do it safely....

i put some jb weld on the thread yesterday, i just bought some all thread, so i dont haveto keep screwing the bolts in and out, plus i can hopefully fix the leak for longer than expected.. since i just got off work..im going to try the rtv trick when i wake up during the afternoon.
