strange sound

Since the other day i've had this strange sound when turning the steering wheel to the left, only when stopped or moving really slowly. It doesn't do it while I'm driving down the road at anything above 5MPH or so.

Basically it's this high pitch squeeking noise. It almost sounds like really squeeky brakes. I thought maybe it was the brakes at first but it does it regardless if i'm touching the brake petal or not. I mean it could still be somehow. But i took a look underneath and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

No one is home for a couple days so don't have anyone to turn the steering wheel back and forth while I'm underneath. I'm going to grease the steering linkages all tomorrow, maybe that'll help. But anyone got any idea of what else it could be.

This might sound stupid, but are you sure your pads don't have those indicators that rub the rotors to let you know it's time to replace the pads? Sometimes they are hard to see. I replaced rotors when I didn't see 'em.

I'm pretty sure. I got some heavy duty pads not too long ago and from what i can see they are still pretty thick. I don't think they have the little scrapper thing either...

Check the dust shield and make sure that it isn't lose and rubbing or just close enough that the flex while turning makes it rub.Also,make sure the Caliper is tight.maybe there is just a shade of play and there is more clearance on one side than the other.You turn one way and it moves enough to drag just enough to squeek/chatter.

hmmm,you said stopped....that throws my idea out the window.Check the belt.Maybe some oil got on it.

could be some thing simple as a stone caught up in the rotor? Pull a wheel and have a look see

Well i kinda thought MAYBE this could be it, it sure doesn't sound like a belt though. But i rev up the motor and pretty good and turn the wheel while stopped and it's exactly the same. I'll try to get a sound sample of it if greasing it doesn't work today, and then as Gruss said i'll have to take the wheels off and have a look.
