shrader/purge valves

the new racor fuel filter does not have a purge valve.
i know i need one, again im trying to re-engineer the wheel
(engineers suck)
should i drill and tap it into the very top of the filter?
or run it inbetween the FH and IP?

while thinking about this, and installing a new water heater yesterday,
got me thinking that it would be nice to have one in the coolant system also.
would this be beneficial for coolant changes?
or am i just ?

I thought it would be cool to replace the schrader (or drill & tap in your case) with a very small ball valve, then on the other end of the ball valve have a piece of clear nylon fuel hose going to a tee in your injector return lines. Then you'd be able to purge the air with out needing a cup to catch the diesel. A regular black return line would work, but with clear you could watch the bubbles go by, or "flash of brilliance" put a clear plastic fuel filter in line.

Coolant purge? Not feeling it.

Did you just buy a new filter? I've had two for sale with a new filter.

There are lots of different petcocks that could be used in place of the Schrader valve.

Don't know why you would need one in the coolant system. If the coolant change is done correctly, the air should be purged then. The T'stat neck has the check ball for purging air if there is any left after a coolant change. Any air left would go to the radiator top tank and should be purged out the to overflow tank.

as we all know, air is trapped in the highest point of your cooling system.
my filter and heater core could be higher than the rad tank.
just thinking of an easier way to do things in the future.
the racor is a new header, filter and separator.

curious if the new filter and separator will fit on my 6.9 filter head

I plumbed one of those cooling system flush fittings (fits garden hose) at the high point of my heater hose. Leave the cap off while filling and the air has an escape route. The factory filter location puts the schrader valve and the return fitting at the highest point of the fuel system.

To enable my vehicles to run on vegetable oil, I have around 30' of extra heater hose, a couple of heat exchangers, a coolant heated fuel pickup and filter head. In other words a GAZILLION places to trap air in the coolant system. I simply had to give up on conventional means of eliminating air and got one of these.

Seriously; this is THE way to fill a cooling system. Imagine filling your system completely in a couple of minutes on the first try without having to pour or spill a drop of coolant.

I think you should run a fuel purge valve right into the cab so you can use it for a straw and siphon fuel when needed.....
