After way too long sitting in the garage and finally replacing the head gaskets the old girl runs! First start up below, seems to still be lots of air in the lines.

That sounds like a timing issue. Seems like its retarded timing. Did you remove the injection pump from the engine and not mark where it was ...

It started running a lot smoother after a bit. Injection pump was marked and put back as it came off. It is still smoking more than it should so it very well may be retarded (the timing... )
