Shaky idle & lack of pulling power maybe ?

Hello All,
I picked up a 1994 F250 extra cab long bed 7.3 idi turbo 38k miles, E40D, 4:10, A while back, It's like new
The truck had sat alot, I have changed all fluids & filters, new brakes & tires, installed a banks downpipe, free flow muffler and gages. So my question is.
At times at idel (stop light) it will run a little rough, kind of a miss but not bad and a faint smell of fuel in the cab, I pull a 24' travel trailer weighing around 5k to 6k lbs and pulling it up a 1- 2 mile 5-7% grade I can only run around 35-40 mph. I have ran stanadyne religiously since I got the truck a year or so ago no help with the idle. So I'm thinking maybe the injectors got gooped up from lack of use ? or Is this normal for this truck? This is my first diesel so any help is greatly appriciated.

If I wast betting on this, I'd say the pump timing is retarded a little.
couple of things to check first though.
One. Change your feul filter and cut apart the old one to see if you have algae in your tanks. If you do, the crud will plug up your filter and starve the pump causing symptoms similiar to what you re describing.
Two. Once determining there's nothing growing in your tanks, Run a few loads of fresh diesel and then see how your performance is like. If you stillhave these problems, have the pump timing checked by a shop.

I forgot that I did have the timming checked by the local injection shop they said it was good, They also checked the pressure and said that was good. I have changed the fuel filter but didnt cut the old one in half, I was thinking of changing here soon with a NAPA one piece filter. I've put maybe 10K miles on the truck so plenty of fresh fuel has ran through it
The truck starts right up, and runs great other than at idle and what I think is the lack of pulling up hills,

So how does one go about checking for air from the return lines ? I see no evidance of fuel leaking anywhere,

feul seepage is the most common way.

if the return lines were leaking you would have a difficult time starting in the moring. it will start then shut off then you have to really crank it to start it again so i dont think that is your problem.

Called the local injection shop and talked to him, he said maybe an injector is varnished ? He asked if I hear a knock when I get on it or at start up, I do hear a knock at start up (cold) ? He said he perfers Delpi injectors over the code G's and wants $32 each
So no one as commented on the pwer issue, is this about normal for these engines ? When not pulling in has plenty of power.
