Actually the melting point of alluminum is 1220 degrees give or take a few, depending where on the internet you find it. Add to that the possibility of a 100 degree error on your pyrometer, and running anything prolonged over 1150 is taking a chance. The oil cooling jets can keep the piston alive for a while if you go hotter, but for how long I wouldn't want to say. I also can't SEE my pistons cooling jets to know that they are working, if you understand what I mean. Yes, we have testimony here of some that have run their trucks that hot, and I've exceeded that number myself and lived to tell about it, but it wasn't for long, and I don't sleep well doing it.
