I read in some ford specs that the flywheel and balancer can not be mismatched between the 6.9 and 7.3, I did not read this for several years after I had used a 6.9 flywheel on my 7.3 with no ill effects though.

The crappy flywheel you have that is thinner, is probably a flexplate for an automatic...

I was thinking the same thing.
