rpm problems

Hey everyone I am having a small problem with my rpm gauge. It works but only over 1500 rpm anything under that weather your pressing the go pedal or not it sits dead at 0rpm it's a 94 f350 idi turbo automatic 4x4 my OF light is also flashing when it reads 0 and the truck is driving it usually shuts off after it finally reads over the 1500.

Any help or ideas? Thanks much

You need the tach for an automatic. The OD lite flashing, means your trans is in safe mode. You only have 2nd and reverse when it's in that mode. Take the Tach sensor out of the IP gear tower and clean it, if there is bare wires on it, dab some RTV on them. If that don't correct the problem, then check the connectors for pin corrosion. A new sensor is a dealer only part, unless you find one on Ebay. Dealer price is $80. There can be other things bad in the tach circuit, check back, if that don't fix it. It's not good to drive it like that, awfull ******* the tranny.

Whats been posted is the truth. Don't run the truck like that or the tans will be ruined. The mode the trans goes into is called limp home mode. Its design is to get you off the roads safely and not much more. Do not think you can drive hundreds of miles to get home either. Just get off the road.

Hey everyone even thou the OD light is blinking the Trans still shifts though all gears just fine its not in limp mode i can still even turn the od on or off by hitting the button i have had a Trans in link mode before so i know what its like. But it for replaced by a zf5
