I replaced the front leafs today with a new 3500lb set from General Springs and didn't really gain the clearance I was expecting.

The old leafs had about 3/4" inch of travel at the bump stops and I was hitting them constantly. I was expecting something closer to 3 inches, but there is only about 1 3/4" at the bump stops now which doesn't seem like much working space.

I've only put on 30 miles so far and haven't hit the bump stops yet so it's definitely and improvement.

Anyone know if this is normal (factory) clearance?

Thanks,
Bob

That's all you get 1.75-2 inches. Believe it or not you don't need much more.

Thanks all. If I had to do it over again I might consider a 2" lift spring with a slightly lighter capacity. The replacements I got are pretty firm. They don't hit as hard as the bump stops did but not a lot softer. Maybe they'll soften up over time but after bouncing off the bump stops for the last 6 months I was hoping for something as smooth as my son's 99 F350 powerstroke with the D60.
