Ready to sell this damn truck!

From day one I've had glow plug issues. Replaced the plugs with a set of Bosch plugs. I actually got the use of plugs for about 2 days then the same annoying clicking sound and no plugs came back. Last night I replaced the relay and things worked perfectly for several starts. I had plugs for a good 10-12 seconds before they kicked off.
This morning I go out to start the truck. Same thing.... No flipping plugs light! It immediately shuts off the wait to start light and the plugs just click.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Now what to fix besides blow this damn thing up

Make sure the Black wire on the controller has a good ground connection, should go to the bolt on the rear of the intake pass side.

Thanks. Yep she should have a solid ground there.
I talked with a local diesel shop and they suggested it was probably the module itself that is bad. Sound right?

it needs solid connections all the way around to work right. make sure you clean connections all the way around.

this sounds like there is a connection on the fritz somewhere.

This can be fixed in 3 VERY simple steps lol.

Clean ALL connections on the relay and controller. I don't care if they look clean, take them apart, clean them with a small wire brush and put them together with some dielectric grease.

TAKE THEM EFFIN' BOSCH PLUGS OUT AND THROW THEM IN THE OCEAN!!!! I bought 2 sets and within 3 weeks, they were all garbage!!

And third....relax, you worked hard! Have a cold beer!!

Connections are 101 material I dont care who you are. Assuming the connections are good what are the diesel brainiacks next guess???

That is with Bosch plugs at only -4*F. It wouldn't even KICK...I JUST installed TWO BRAND NEW batteries the night before...and the sum ***** wouldn't light off.

This is at -15*F..with Motorcraft plugs that are a year old, and it was NOT plugged in....

local Ferd dealer is the only place I know to get them (Motorcrafts) and they want $22 EACH for them. Does that sound about right?


Also can someone PLEASE post up the schematics of how I could bypass my module and do a manual GP system? I found one for the 6.9liters but not the newer trucks

I got a QUICK way to bypass, but there is a tech article in the tech section on how to do a proper solid state bypass.

Do you have Ebay or Paypal? I got a COMPLETE set of 8 motorcrafts DELIVERED for about $100

Local Ford stealership wants about $25 a piece here too.

I promise you, that a set of motorcrafts will fix that problem.

I found that the Bosch plugs don't get hot enough or something and when you do a manual conversion you burn them up in a week. I had mine on a manual push botton and all I did was burn them out faster.

Save your cash, and buy a set of Beru's!!

Back to the quick bypass....

Remove the white wire from the relay's small terminal all together. Add your own wire and ground it to the engine block, body...just somewheres close.

Remove the red wire from the ignition source and the controller wire from the other small relay terminal and again, put your own piece of wire on there and run it into the cab.

Tap into the red wire from the relay that you just removed and run it into the cab and put it on a switch. Turn the key on, and now you can manually turn the glow plugs on for as long or as little as you want. The WTS light will not work now, but you can light the plugs up manually.

This is only a quick hack job, until you burn the Bosch plugs up an want to install motorcraft plugs lol.

But if you insist, check the tech articles for a PERMANENT controller bypass.

Put a smidge of antiseize on those threads and be CARESUL removing those bosch plugs...I would hate to see this turn into a "Pulling the heads" thread due to a broken GP tip!!!

Thx! Yea fingers crossed I don't have a problem there. I was nervous pulling out the crapped out Autolites that were in there when I bought it

for 10 dollars a plug its a no brainer. you could have them 1 day air shipped and still come out 50 dollars ahead than if you went to the dealership.

I've used bosch before, I still have my old set and they work fine . Only problem I ever had was from overglowing a set because the truck had a bad fuel leak. they came right out...

The easiest way to fix this problem is to quit using that junk glow plug controller, I have mine manual and don't ever imagine going back

The relay has 2 diff sets of Red wires on the top that come from a wire loom. One Red wire is very large gauge and I'm assuming is the hot wire? The other Red wire which is actually 2 wires combined into 1, what is that one from?
