radio wiring issues

i got a new radio for the truck cause the old one wasnt working, and it was only an am radio. normally this is a pretty easy project for me, and ive been working on it for 4 hours now. i got the radio out and the door panels off and had to wire the speakers up. and started hooking up the wires for the power and ground. got them all hooked up and nothing worked. got out the multitester, and the ground is good, the remote wire WAS good, and the memory wire had no power, checked the fuse box, no power there, so i tied the memory wire into the cig. lighter. and now the memory wire has no power to it. gave up for the night. so any advice would be greatly appreciated to get it finished tomorrow.

possiably a short caused the cig lighter fuse to blow when mem wire was hooked up

mem wire is still good. its just the remote now.

ok the remote wire from the radio is bad or the remote wire from the truck ..... i dont think the remote wire in the truck does anything i think its just extra cause that harness is used it tons of fords and mercs

the remote wire in the truck, it is supposed to come on with the key and power the radio on.

The radio only requires red yellow and black to turn on , keyed power, constant power, and ground. The remote wire recives power from the radio to turn on amps or powered antennas

ahh ok now we are on the same page check and see if the fuse is lose in the panel mine was i had to wedge it with wire for my radio to stay on i guess it might be a ford thing

f-10? which fuse is the keyed one?

im not sure the number but its labeled radio you can check with a meter to see which is key and which is constant

It would have been easier to get a Ford wiring kit to the brand radio your installing. It does not sound like you did that. The ford Wiring kit plugs into the radio harness and adapts the wiring to the radio your installing. No need to cut and splice wires that way. It's how I did mine back in 2004 when I want from AM/FM to AM/FM/XM and CD.

i would have but they didnt have any at the store i was at, and there was only wiring for the speaker in the dash, and i would have ended up cutting and splicing stuff anyway because 2 out of the 3 wires for power was bad. the old radio didnt work for the same reason.

3 wires for power? ok you should pull out your tester and check your fusebox. When checking the fusebox pay close attention for a lose or cracked fuse, dont just look for burnt up fuses, I have ran into a couple of fuses that just cracked the wire but it wasnt just burnt. You should have a keyed on power, constant power, and ground, that should be it before you add in speakers. 2 power, 1 ground. I know my buddys 86 that I put a radio in only had a remote in by the radio, There was a constant going to a clock somewhere right in there but I just ran my own because I hate hacking into factory wires...

finaly got time to work on it between 2 jobs, and getting enough sleep. i feel like an idiot, f10 was empty, and i was mistaking f11 for f10. put a new fuse in f10, and f11 and now it works great.
