Anyone have experience with the Racor spin-on filter system?

I've got the setup on my truck with a Racor filter (with an amber bowl on the bottom) mouted just under the driver's seat.

I wonder what the function is of the drain valve. Is this a good setup to have on the truck?

I think they are fine as long as you use decent micron rated filters. Pretty sure the drain is to drain any water that is separated.

I am not 100% sure on that model specifically but I always just pop open the drain without anything running without issue. I think that, if anything, it would be worse to drain it while it was running 'cause the lift pump might be more likely to suck in air. As long as you are not draining too much, even it if let air in, it should not be enough to hurt anything. Pretty often I crack my water seperater to find no water at all.
