Purple ATF?

I was given 5 gallons of ATF today, from a piece of railroad equipment. I have no idea what type of tranny it is, but the fluid is purple. Since I've never seen purple ATF before, I figured I had better ask first...

What's the difference between this stuff and regular red ATF? Is it safe to burn? It looks good and clean, but will be highly filtered before use...

Royal purple is purple. For RR use who knows what they gave you.

I was wondering that too... There is five gallons of it and it was drained from the transmission.. Would they use silicone DOT 5 in a transmission?
