I think 4 flats is WAY too much.....I could BURY a car in black smoke as a joke climbing hills and whatnot, but I was scared to hold the go-pedal down for more than a couple seconds. I thought I might burn it up. I turne it back down to one flat above factory setting tonight, I ain't ******* my gear and I didn't want to burn it up. Maybe when I get a turbo and an intercooler;Sweet, I'll play with the pump....and dream of water and propane injection..:sly

I definitly gotta bypass my factory glow plug harness/controller. The guy that I bought the truck from bypassed part of the system and put the glow plugs on a toggle switch. Which would have worked ok, except for the fact that the fuel shutoff solonoid is wired into the same switch...cookoo. The glow plugs come on, and you start the truck...but then the glow plugs STAY on until they burn out:mad:. I am going to completely remove the controller, as it is no good and was bypassed for this reason by the previous owner, and go with a momentary push button switch wired directly to the solonoid. This should solve my glow plug problem.....hopefully

Yes, it will work that way. You should probably leave the controller in place tho, as that's what the relay bolts up to, but if you just pull the wires off the controller it will be nothing more than a mounting block for the relay. Why is the FSS on a toggle switch tho, as safety device?

It SOUNDS like your doing this without the benefit of an exhaust gas temperature gauge (pryometer)? If so, your definitely playing with fire! I can't in good conscious make any suggestion other than to park it until you get one installed. If you DO have one, then my applogies, and what kinds of readings are you seeing?

Call me crazy and I will understand, but I didn't have a pyro installed cookoo, and that is why I was too chicken to hold it down and let it rev up....I wouldn't even hold the fuel down to make it get up to speed because as a trucker I know what excessive EGT's can do to an engine.:puke: I am pretty easy with the truck and it only goes from home to work on flat level ground, through city traffic to and from, and NEVER sees anything above 70 km/h. Until I get a pyro installed I won't tow, or do anything abnormal with it other than driving to and from work, just becuse it could melt down under WOT.

As soon as I fix up the glow plug problem I plan on buying a good pyro and drill and tap the manifold to install it. I want to install a good set of mechanical guages to monitor oil pressure, transmission temperature and water temperature.....if I get really into it, maybe even an oil temperature guage too. THEN I can really do some work to the engine and know what is actually going on under the hood.;Sweet

Please get the pyro. A stock N/A IDI with the IP on the stock setting can and will make dangerous EGT's when pushed. Turning up the IP even a little will hasten the climb to the RED ZONE!!!

Please be careful.

Hence the reason I haven't touched my pump...The truck is a little lazy when it's towing heavy but I can rev the snot out of it and it will climb the hills just the same...All be it - slower.

Where does everyone install an EGT sensor on an NA, left or right side exhaust manifold?

I am installing my probe on the left side of the engine, as sitting in the drivers seat. Less wire to run in the cab/engine bay, but i understand that you are not supposed to cut the wire to the probe to shorten it.....makes it give an inaccurate reading.

You seem to have your truck running good! I seen it on youtube at the IDI rally.....and i would LOVE to go, but it's a lonnnnng haul from Halifax to the rally. What kinda of numbers does your truck turn out? horsepower/torque and mpg? It's not a bad looking ride at all!

If you go with an A-pillar mount, most EGT kits give you the right amount of wire to run it to the passenger side. You don't want to coil the wire and make an antenna out of it.

Remember..my truck is completely different from all yours...if I do a pyro I'll probably have to drill a hole in my dash in a flat spot, or find another spot for it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no one makes a pillar gauge pod for a 4600 dump.

LOL

Probably true, but you might be able to adapt one. You could use those stupid cup holders to hold your gauges. What idiot designs a truck where the cup holder is right over the radio. cookoo I'm sure coffee and a cassette tape mechanism just love each other.
