If the gromet is that old then replace it. Your this far into the job and no good reason to half @ss it with a bad gromet. I know they might be hard to find but now is the best and easiest time to replace it. The turbo drain line needs to slide thru this gromet so placing the rtv on the end of the drain tube will get it on the gromet. So the gromet needs to be clean. No amount of rtv will seal the oily gromet. Banks sells gromets for their turbos still but I don't recall what size you need for your turbo. All the valley pan holes for the gromets are the same outside diameters. Maybe Russ (Typ4) has some gromets. I know there has been some supply issues with some gromets too...

I got it all back together, still gotta leak. I pressure washed it real good, took it out for spin to warm it up, when I got back I found a small stream of oil in the center of the oil pan in the back, looks like its coming from the rear main seal, and also the front seal also looks like its leaking. The person that installed the rear seal said it didnt look right idk what he meant but apparently he was right, he said something about it going in farther then what he thought it should go in.

That bolt you have a picture of is a water pump bolt. There are two of them at the top of the pump. They both need a sealant applied to them because they reach into the crank case oily side. Have they been removed because a pump was installed???

Well I fudged up trying to remove just the ip cover, so now I gotta remove the whole front cover to the motor. Well at least I can throw some new silicone on it to rule that out from leaking. So far I got the IP all unbolted, and am draining the antifreeze. Hopefully I can get this and the rear seal done in 7 days(Vacation)

Wow, talk about diggin an old thread up, LOL

Welcome to Oil Burners the best place for info on these old trucks.

Pleas take a moment fill in your signature so we can know what vehicle you have

Also look through the FAQ, TECH, and lastly HALL OF SHAME, those are great places for tons of information

So what is it you are trying to do? Do you have a leaking oil pan? If so removing the engine is the BEST method to reseal it.

These engines never came with a gasket on the pan and trying to get a pan to seal while in the truck is NIGH impossible.

If you can I'd suggest a new thread, introduce yourself, and explain your problem.

Again,

Welcome to OB
