Pulling help?

O.k. My truck does great under no load just driving around. It will run 70 easy. However I pull a horse trailer that probably weighs 8000# loaded. It does o.k. on flat ground but the hills of Tennessee kicks its but. What can I do?

Tell me about it. I'm at my grandparents house putting up a fence for them around there property. I hauled our trailer and tractor over, about 7000 pounds I think. Flat ground I was holding 62mph real good. Pulling up the hills and grades to there house though...was iffy. They live on a steep road with turns, so you come out of one corner and instantly hit a 8% grade with 20mph speed. 3rd gear is too tall, and 2nd is to short it seems.

Just gotta live with it. All I know is I can maintain 65mph up hills loaded with what I was hauling as I was in a real sweet spot in the rpm's. 9psi of boost, 1100* EGT's and it pulled it

Like said by Chris, a turbo will be your best bet.

we have some killer mountains dont we, yes you need a turbo that will help greatly

Another turbo vote. Dollar for dollar, it is simply the best power upgrade for these IDI's. New is nice, but obviously more expensive. That said, you can usually find a good used one on ebay or in the marketplace here.

A Gearvendors or U.S. gear unit can give you up to 10 MPH on the same hill over your existing speed by giving you between gears. Get both if you can afford it.

Momentum is your best friend, and pedal to the floor. This motor can run pegged out all day without any problems

I have a Gear Vendors bolted upto my BTS E4OD trans. That splits every forward gear and makes hauling my heavy loaded 3 horse gooseneck easy. I always have a gear that works. These automatic trans have a terrible tall step between gears. The 2nd to 3rd is the worst. The gv makes a half gear between those and it works great. My turbo is a Banks sidewinder and its wastegated. I run 12 lbs. of boost with a moose pump. I recently changed the G code injectors for a set of BB codes from Typ4... They are working great... There is really something wrong with the G injectors. Probably the emissions for that time.... Time to spend some money A new gv is around $3000.00... A built BTS trans is around $4500.00.... A new turbo is around $3000.00 from Banks... All these items except the trans can be found cheaper on ebay. Yes, they are used but if you understand them they can really be a deal.

Didnt even think about that. 2-3 shift is harsh with the T-19, if I could split gears and drop rpms down some, it would help a ton
