problem with temp gauge

I have had my truck for 3 days now, and its running great. However my temp gauge will go to about 1/2" past hot. From cold. I dont think it used to go past the C. and when i turn it off, it stays past hot. Would i need a new thermostat?

sounds like a grounded sensor or sensor wire.

how would i see if thats the problem, and how do i fix it?

start by removing the wire off the temp sensor and see what the gauge does. If the gauge stays up, either the wire is grounded somewhere or the gauge is bad.
