PowerStroke vacuum pump questions.

How much vacuum does the electric vacuum pump on the PowerStroke trucks make? And what trucks did they come on?

This isn't for my truck but for my 85' Jetta TD.

It makes less vacuum than a mechanical pump.

Came on the super duty trucks. So like 98/9+ IIRC.

What exactly are you wanting to do with it?

I am wanting to run the brakes and enviro controls.

Running the brakes off it will be a no no for sure.

The electric one's you asked about don't provide enough volume.

Ok, that's good to know. I am guessing it would take a very large electric pump to work and not because of the pump but because of the motor to drive it. And that would take up a lot of engine bay. Is this correct or is there an electric pump that will work?

I'm sure you could find one, but will most likely be bulky.
Could always mount it in the trunk maybe.

Could you do a hydroboost swap? Was it ever offered?

I wish there was a hydraboost system. Most if not all of the pre-TDI VW diesels didn't have power steering even (alright by me though). If it was possible I would do it as that would be amazing.

I'm sure it could be done, just take a lot of time.

Apparently their are elec pumps available. I forgot all about the big cam situation on high hp v8's.

The link has lead me to a lot of good places and info. After looking at some of it, I need a vacuum reservoir and a switch. And that is way more stuff that what I was anticipating. All well. To factory we go.
