Does anyone have a picture of what the power lock system in the rear doors of a 90 or similar crew cab looks like? I just got done fixing one of my front doors and now my back passenger door is acting up. The actuator is way too much money and I am not buying a new one if at all possible and need to try and see if I can create a way to use a front actuator or aftermarket junk one to move the rod that locks and unlocks things even if I have to weld two rods together and put the actuator in a different spot.

I do not have the patience for this type of crap. Had to break during my three six day work weeks of the year when I have no time to fix it and when it freezes it freezes on locked and you can't get it to even move with the manual lock plunger to the point that I broke the top of it off pulling on it with pliers. Then once it gets 85 and miserable out it will start to work at random and maybe stick on lock maybe stick on unlock. Which I can't have this time of year when I have to drive around to get stuff for work and need the thing to work properly.

Fed up. Pliers stuck in drywall after I broke the top of plunger type of angry.

What I ended up doing on mine for a quick fix was I drilled out the rivet that held the actuator and just let it hang in the door. It let me lock and unlock the door and is on my to-do list. It may bang around in there but shouldn't hurt anything.

In the front doors it's below the latch on the side of the door. Not sure on the back. It was a 1/4" Al rivet. Drilled in seconds.

Guess I could do that for now. Yeah, I've done the front doors with drilling the rivet but I can't even get this door to open today everything is seized and yet tomorrow on my way to work it might work all day might unlock once and never lock again. Ugh.

So..

I took the panel off and was going to drill it out but figured I'd mess with it first. It looked really rusty for some reason despite no water down the weather seal area. Must have been replaced at some point. So I tried putting a plastic bag over the actuator to not get pb blaster in the actuator itself. It doesn't make the clicks grinding noise from the actuator like my dying one did when it was on its way out.

So I "liberally" pb blasted the heck out of everything humanly possible and worked the door back and forth 300+ times. I almost feel like moisture overnight somehow makes the linkage stick on the rusty areas more because once it dried up today it came to life. I'm hoping that all the pb blaster and movement today will free some stuff up.

If it does free it up, use some good grease on it.
My hand crank windows are light that. If it's very humid over night, they're harder to turn in the morning until it warms up.

I had a somewhat similar problem on my '92 CC. The locking actuator on a rear door quit, just wouldn't work. I drilled it out and removed it, made that door into a manual locking door. Now I have central locking on three doors and manual locking on one door. I may have, and maybe even find, that locking actuator if you need a picture.

My 92 had the same problem on the drivers side door. Took the panel off and squirted in all the moving places with PB Blaster, got it to work just fine, then I squirted all the places with PB Silicone Lube, been good for a year now. Wait for a day before using the Silicone so the Blaster dries up.

O'Reilly has the metal lock/unlock pull to replace the plastic.

See something I still don't understand is even with it now working I can't get it to move manually with the manual lock that sticks up. It moves but gets pushed back to where it was when the power locks were last pressed. I don't even understand why it's there if you can't "use" it and it's the same on the opposite back door which I haven't had a problem with (yet).. Strange. Are they like child proofed or something cause of it being the back seat? If so why even have them. I can see the actual door handle being like that but the manual tab I don't get.

I think you've got something else going on. Maybe an electrical issue. You should be able to use the manual knob. That's a safety issue. If I were you, I would pull the fuse on the door locks and try it. Sounds to me like maybe your actuator is shorted or something if it won't let you use the manual knob.

Just tried that and no difference. If they were stuck drawing or being sent power you'd think I'd have had battery issues. I wonder if these aren't the original actuators even back there?

That could be (child proof), I know mine are hard to pull up to unlock even after lubeing them. I got something like this with a knob on top, the damn straight ones are hard and slippery to pull.

My crew cab had both rear actuators locked up when i get it, they were the spiral down kind. I was able just to pop them loose from the u shaped holder. They have a pin on each side, i just pryed them out and snapped the replacement in. You can then disconnect the spiral part from the door mechanism and use it like a regular manal lock

That's exactly what mine did. Couldn't lock the door. Actuator was froze up.

I just don't get how it can do both at the same time. Cause when it moves it does lock and unlock the door. I just don't get how the actuator can move it but I can't. Weird. I'm gonna grease it later tonight where I pb blasted everything and see if it's free enough to work until further notice. Maybe there's just too much resistance for the actuator in the morning humidity. I'm more confused then anything, I don't want it to be broke but 90% of the time working is almost worse haha
