Not having enough projects to do
I decided to install an overhead console from a 98 Explorer. The console, mount, wiring harness (from the dash to the unit) and the temp sensor were $40 from a local salvage. The temp sensor is next to the left frame rail behind the front bumper and is hanging by a white electrical contactor. The Explorer OH console is not a perfect fit, but the Bronco units are hard to find and expensive.
Here is a link to someone else's install
The wiring pinout for 96 and newer. The 95 and older units do not have the ambient temp sensor return wire (#10)
This is my modified console, after sanding and painting, the bracket and wiring harness installed, and finished. The color is a closer match than the picture shows due to flat vs gloss paint. I still need to connect the harness to the truck.
I modified the side and rear of the console with abs plastic and pvc solvent cement. I glued 1/2" pieces of abs plastic along the inside edge of the console. Then glued 2 layers of abs as shown in the first picture. You do need to move the abs around a bit as you place it on the console to get a strong joint. Also you need a bunch of strong spring loaded clamps or small c-clamps. Or both, I used 9 at times.
