I just started my truck cold and it seems noisy and very clanky. This is my first diesel, is this normal? It does not smaoke at all and has good oil pressure it has a K&N filter and a 4" dynomax exhaust. Seems to get qiueter as it warms up. Again this is my first diesel just curious thanks

I'm assuming by noisy you mean the click clack noise, it's your cold advance doing it's job and advancing the timing for easier starts and faster warmup.

And Eric, is your high idle working?

yep. the high idle solenoid is activating when cold and i can definatley hear it kick down after it warms up. i would post a vid but i don't have a vid camera that can get good sound quality. the rattle of the engine when warm is also quiter.

Dude, go on youtube and search for 'IDI cold starts'. There are quite a few. Might see what normal is.

Dude, sounds like she threw a rod or something terrible! Better just give her to me and let me save you alot of time and money! Just kidding, sounds like she's probably doing what she's suppose to do.

its suppose to sound like that, its a diesel and its cold, its not a gas motor where it runs smooth, its called diesel clatter its natural in a diesel motor, its just more noticeable when its cold.. if u notice its harder to start in the cold than the warm thats because diesel motors rely off of timed injection, compression and HEAT!
