Well its good to be on board;Sweet
This is my first diesel truck and I'm wanting to upgrade with some type of tuner or chip, intake, and exaust. The truck is a 1997 F250 7.3L powerstroke with about 170,000 miles on the engine and a 5 speed manual trans.
Any info would be appreciated scince there are so many options out there its just spinning my mind:dunno
Thanks
Gary

Id look into the open element intake such as a TYMAR or the do it yourself version, a chip from DPTuner and for the exhaust I would go with a 3" down pipe and either just lose the muffler or go with an MBRP system.

I was thinking on doing the intake myself, just need to find a source for the materials.
To chip or to tune thats the question.I have heard a lot of stories about false codes with using the chips.
The exaust will likely be a turbo back 4"magnaflow.
I have been learning a lot from these instructional videos from a guy I saw on Youtube.Check it out.

Thanks for the replies.

DIY intake w/6637 air filter works great...and they're on sale at NAPA. Once the big dawg can breathe, it appears exhaust downpipe and/or pull cat is next (next on my list anyways). Then the chip. Have fun....each upgrade will add to your seat of the pants dyno and put a smile on your face. :D

A lot of these abreviations,I have no clue on what they mean....
Sorry clueless here.
I am in kindergarden and you guys are in highschool.:dunno
The HPOP (high pressure oil pump) is what drive the injectors on a PSD. In 1997 you have a 15 degree HPOP (its the angle of the swash plate in the pump) and the later PSD's had 17 degree pumps. Simply means they can pump more volume at a given pressure. In all honesty you can run a set of modified injectors on the stock 15 degree pump OR you can run a 17 degree pump with your stock injectors and maintain higher injection pressure.

My money would go towards injectors first (after the intake and exhaust upgrades) unless you have grand plans of running a set of Stage II injectors in which case youre going to probably need to upgrade your fuel system as well.spit

Since youre still in kindergarten I really really strongly suggest that you install a set of boost and exhaust temp guages before you do ANYTHING.

Do the donaldson airfilter (tymar) setup. Its really cheap compared to spendin over 300 for a system from the other big manufacturers. It makes a big difference. You really hear the turbo whistle. Cut that muffler off too till you get yer full 4" system. You will notice a big diff.

Deisel Freek and I just did the air mod yesterday. He came up with the idea of using a 4" adjustable elbow for cloths dryer exaust.Worked fantastic!!I will get a few pics up when I can. Thanks Tom ,..great idea ;Sweet
How often do you guys change this filter, and how does water affect the filter?
Now I have to address the issue of a leak at the first flange out of the turbo to the engine.Getting the seal and clamp assembly today from the dealer.
