didnt make me mad. Im not a brand loyal guy and have messed with lots of diesels. all have their shortcomings and bonuses. Me personally I love my old iron but the creature comforts and power of the newer diesels is appealing

Ya or they cost what I have in my Idi. for a **** with 400k an fallin apart that every joe in the state used and worked the crap out of. An my dad lives in Missouri and he buys alot high mileage powerstrokes an had good luck many times but there rough most of the time. For the price of a descent starting ground of an idi. As for the starting issue in the cold my dad gets really cold weather and he has not recived many that are hard to start. Weather being in single digits or below they tend to be difficult two or three keys cycles. I live in California my friends always starts where ever we go hot or cold just runs like an animal they have a 99 an 01 with around 150,000 and 190,000 both no work to the glow plugs ever and in the mountains in the teens the both start well but my idi is faster but there's have no trouble. I would the say single digits or below they have a lil trouble good glow plug system helps. They need somthing like 3200 oil psi to start if I remember right an that why idi is faster the dont an they also hold there pressure pretty from being mechanical and it's there when you hit the key or botton. But you need glow plugs or I will say man it can be hard to start.

Another reason an automatic is preferred is the quick, crisp shifts don't let boost lower too far....think about it, when your auto is jammin into gears, your boost will stay lit up where as if you were to drive a standard turbo truck, the boost would fall at each shift because of the length of time it takes to get it in the next gear.

My 90 IDI N/A starts on one or two engine revolutions, cold or hot weather. WHY, because the fuel system is kept up to par, no air intrusion, good lift pump, the batteries are 4 years old, battery cables and connections are kept in good condition for plenty of cranking power, a functioning glow plug system, starter is original as far as I know, not wore out from long cranking. The E4OD transmission was rebuilt buy me, blew the cooler hose, neglected to tighten a hose clamp after replacing it. Shifts just great automatically, I can even shift it like a manual tranny ;Really , how about that. It does have a 2007 Promar remanufactured engine, PO never used the coolant SCA, it cavitated #6 cyl.

The 92 runs just as good, and it's got an 88 engine in it, PO burn't up the original engine at 129K miles, ran it with no coolant in it, gotta rebuild the E4OD in it, PO ran it hot and leaks fluid. Now when rebuilding the tranny, all updates are installed along with a tugger kit for towing.

I drive the 99.5 most of the time because of the Crew Cab, it's stock with 180K on it. The 4R100 tranny was rebuilt at 168K, my fault, torque convertor nuts came loose and tore open the case. No trouble starting, cold or hot weather. I've towed some awful heavy loads with it, like 22,500.

DIESEL's forever.

3200 oil psi to start if I remember right
Not correct, takes only 500 PSI to start. But, when running it can develop up to 18,000 PSI to fire the injectors.

My rambling on is done.
