the method ford uses to test blowby uses a magnehilic gauge on a bar gauge. It is read through the oil fill. An adapter screws into the oil fill, has a line that connects to the gauge. the engine is run at idle and 2500 (most just do wot) with the cdr blocked off. A reading below 4 is good, above 6 is toast. My truck ran a 3 on our gauge at work and my compression numbers are low enough that I now know why my truck has no power and runs poorly. Blow by is a simple "quick test" but isnt always definative.

also, installing some clear tubing in the return line system will allow you to check for air intrusions in the fuel system. The reverse pressure/ air trick will work but too much and your gonna create a leak rather than find it. pm towcat or myself and we can explain good places to install the clear tubing.

Do you work for the Auto Rx people?

Why have I never heard of it before?

I went to the site it looks interesting... Seems like it would take almost a year and 12k mi to get two wash and rinse cycles done...

I have absoloutely no connection with the company, in fact before I retired when I still had my shop open, I shot myself in the foot on a regular basis with that stuff by talking customers out of expensive repair jobs that would have been putting lots of nice big labour dollars in my pocket for big expensive seal repair jobs and rebuild jobs , and lots of them , that just didn't have to be done because of that stuff. Of course, same said customers were mighty happy about not having to get hit with huge repair bills ;Sweet

The guy doesnt want it selling on store shelves or people will misuse it and blame the product, he want's them on the website reading the instructions thoroughly. and yes it takes a long time to run it through for some people, for others a month or two, just depends on driving habits

both of my trucks have no blow by when you open the oil cap.
the crnkcase ventilation system pulls the "blow by" from the crankcase so pulling an oil cap really doesn't tell anything. There is a specific procedure to running a blow by test. I've done it many times on heavy semi trucks but never on such a small truck. Does anyone have this procedure? If your gonna make repair decisions from this test you should do it right. I'm NOT saying Mark is wrong I'm just not familiar with it for this engine. I don't believe in throwing parts at a vehicle till it's better.

the blowby test is only used in this case to determine if the rings are washed down and the motor is not worth sinking money into.
that's it.
