Needing some info on oil in the water

Well here the story....i work for a welding supply company and i carried some oxygen and propane to the scrap yard this morning. Drove in and dang....a cream puff bricknose excab dually. So i quickly ask about it and he said the engine was shoot so i looked further and oil was in the water. How do i figure out if its cavitation or just the oil cooler went bad? Its a 89 7.3 bolt action centurion dually. Thanks Tim

WATER in OIL could be cavitation


OIL in WATER is likely oil cooler O rings!

Oil pressure being higher than water makes oil migrate to the water...not the other way around.

Well said, Al. Thought the oil in my water was my head gaskets, which were leaking....

Didn't realize the cooler rings were bad until the engine was back in-frame after new head gaskets... not a happy thing on an E-van.

Its mostly as posted above. Buy it and fix it. The worst it can be is a ruined engine like they said. then you install your engine in it.. If you have one to do that swap. Without pics this is really not an easy suggestion. Pics would really help. If it going to be cruched pay the scrap price plus 10%.

Ok well.....when you take the cap off the radiator theres oil in it and when you pull the dip stick theres water in the oil. The oil is thick and turning gray. They are wanting a thousand bucks for it. I wish i could put a pic on here but dont know how to pull it from my phone and post it here.
