The cheap and simple option is the Ferret adapter. MANY people have success with it here. My own self, I held out and found a decent looking Kent Moore j3300 (the j3300A is the updated model and what you should get if you can) on ebay. I will not be going back to a timing light adapter. They work, and work well. However a mag pickup meter gives you a whole wealth more information in a much more accurate form. They're just easier to use, and read. Also, if you're careful, you can pickup a good meter setup for about what a Ferret +timing light will run.
