So the factory AC compressor is under the aternator?

no but the wires on mine were taped in the harness and I just untied them and plugged it in, I suppose it could be something different but that is the only place I have ever seen that connector. I have been wrong before, yes I admit it Upon reexamination is that a small, like 1/2 inch wide connector, The ac plug is an inch or so. dang it I hate being wrong, makes me look bad, wait I look bad anyway.lol I will look in my manual now I am curious.

I haven't looked at my a/c plug in a while, but I think the terminals are further apart than in the plug that Zigg pictured (and the whole plug is rather long and thin). More to the point, as others have mentioned, Ford located the compressor on the port side, above the power steering pump, on all IDI factory a/c setups (regardless of belt setups)...and I think trucks with dealer a/c are the same. And, at least on my truck, th a/c plug doesn't go anywhere near the engine harness...it goes from the pressure switch on the a/c dryer along the low-pressure hose to the compressor (maybe they changed the routing on later trucks?).

I wonder what the plug is? Certainly not something seen on an '84 truck

Went out aand looked at my '91, mine has 4 wires and the "cap" is about 1 inch square. Looking through my wiring diagrams.

That completely looks like a Ford A/C plug. Recognized it instantly.
