Since I made a partial attempt at reviewing my exhaust, I should put something in here too before I forget.
Dealing with LIPD was great. Shipping was a cluster due to the address I gave, but that's got nothing to do with him. The install went quick, but because of frustration and not caring I think I cross-threaded the EGT probe.
I drive it on level 3. I have put it up to 5 to see what happens, and transmission slip is generally the result. If you can ease into it slow, you can feel a ton of power there, but the stock 48RE can't handle it. I've never tried level 5 any slower than 60 mph. My logic is that since the truck is moving, there's less strain on the transmission. But at slow speeds you can spin the tires and relieve some of that stress. I don't know which is better, but the best solution is not to mess with it so I try not to.
My level 3 numbers, as tested on the highway using the 1/4 mile and 0-60 thing on the Attitude gauges, are:
16.7 seconds at 85 mph, and 0-60 of 8.3 seconds.
It's been a while since I did that, but I think I launched in 4wd, and I didn't build any boost before launching. On the stock setting, I came up with these numbers:
18.5 seconds at 81 mph, and 0-60 of 9.0 seconds.
The transmission is on it's way out, I think. It seems to slip more and more going from 3rd to 4th, and is now to the point where you have to lift for a split second to get it to lock up. I don't remember it doing that before. I've never pulled or hauled anything with it.
The downside to it is there's at times too much power. Climbing a hill is risky. It's got enough power now that on steep hills it won't shift, it just drags itself up. And those EGT numbers go through the roof. Probably for the short amount of time they climb it's not a big deal, but it's hard to watch it happen. The only fix is to get on the throttle and make it shift to 3rd or 2nd.
I keep the low boost fueling on the highest setting, so I can get around town. I turned it down for some reason and drove it around town, and it seemed gutless until the turbo spooled up. I leave it turned up now so I can pull out and go without fear of being run over.
I think it feels its strongest around 1400-2500 RPM. It doesn't really feel like it needs more bottom end with the stock turbo, because it spools up quick and you can get your RPMs up. It really falls off on the top end though. Notice the difference in miles per hour in the 1/4 mile numbers above, and the 0-60 times. There's a big gap in 0-60, but 1/4 mile mph is closer. To me, that means more low end than top end gains, but maybe my thinking is wrong on that one.
