Hey guys, I'm planning to install a T19 as some of you remember. The local pullyard has very few junk trucks with manual transmissions, but I did find 2 possible candidates to cannibalize parts from.
1) 85 E150 with a 4 speed manual(don't know which) it has the clutch pedal assy which I'm told wil work on the F-series as well. The shift lever is real nice and I might grab that as well. It has a slave cylinder that seems to be in good shape. I found that the slave cylinders were the same part number for all T18/19 trannys with hydraulic clutches 80-86 all engines.
2) A 77 F-series with a manual and a 4wd. On the 77 the tower is already gone, but I need a yoke type driveshaft piece which this truck still has and appears to be in good shape. It also has the clutch pedal assy, but I assume it would not work on an 80-86. It also should have the mechanical linkage instead of the hydraulic M&S system. I've thought about using this setup to avoid the expense and aggravation of the hydraulic components. Does anyone know how hard it would be to switch that stuff over from an NP435 to a T19 diesel? Is it even possible? I'm open to suggestions...are these good options or should I just keep looking for something that's a closer match? Thanks,

) is, there's no need to reinvent the wheel, unless the part you're re-engineering is an inherently weak design (the firewall, for example, but I don't think a mechanical linkage is really going to help there). While I doubt that there are any problems with the mechanical linkage (except the adaptation process), I tend to think that you're creating more work for yourself than is necessary, for minimal (if any) gain. I rather doubt that getting an IDI bellhousing to work with a mechanical setup will be an easy undertaking, and I rather strongly think that doing so is simply not worth the trouble. And, even if you do get it to work, it's going to take some custom parts...and, if one of these parts fails when you're on the road, what then?
