Hi All,
I've been lurking here for quite a while and read most of the 3rd Gen posts.
I am looking to buy an 05-06 5.9 Cummins. I'm familiar with the virtues of the 12 valve and IP issues with the 24.
What things should I be aware of in the common rail, especially the 2005-2007 models (5.9l only)?
This will not be used for heavy towing and will rarely be used to tow anything at all. It will be my daily driver to work (32 miles each way, mostly highway) and runs to the hardware and feed stores.
I love diesel engines for their longevity and fuel economy and the ability to run alt fuel blends. I'm mostly interested in a manual tranny, 4x4 (but not required).
So, please tell me what things to watch out for, be aware of, and avoid.
One last thing. I'd like to have a pickup that will last 300K-500K miles. Is the 3rd gen Cummins up to the task? (I know..that's a silly question but wanted to ask anyway)
Thanks,
clint
