Has anyone with a bricknose style truck ever had a voltage difference between inside the truck and under the hood? I'm getting 13+ volts at the battery when the truck is running, also the same volts at the relay on the fender but inside the truck, my factory battery guage and after market guage are reading low. I took a volt meter to the inside of the truck and I'm only getting 10.90 volts. Also getting a low reading at the a/c blower motor.
Is there a connection somewhere that I need to check that might be causing a drop? Thanks.

Check your grounds. That smells of either a bad ground or a bare wire grounded to the cab somewhere causing the cab essentially to be "hot". Check the voltage between something grounded in the cab and the ground terminal of the battery. If its not zero, you have a small short somewhere. Also check continuity to make sure the cab is grounded properly.

Interesting. It doesnt really cause any problem but I wouldnt mind having proper power to the already underpowered a/c blower motor.

Where is the aftermarket gauge connected? It should be direct to battery! Otherwise it's a false reading!

Wow. I've always tied aftermarket guages to the nearest hot source and always had a good reading. If I dont find an issue with grounds or wiring, I'm going to wire the guage to an underhood source.

Voltage under dash is NOT what the condition of Battery is and if it is at 10 volts under dash I'd be thinking *** is wrong with my battery. I've always tied voltage to Battery or Solenoid battery side so I know what my state of charge is not what the systems voltage reading is!

This does sound like bad ground though within the system.

Have you checked with a multi meter at various points to see if you can find a problem?

You can hook the voltmeter anywhere you want to, depending on your needs and what you want to monitor. The factory voltmeter is tied to the hot wire that feeds the instrument cluster. If you want to hook one to the battery by all means do it, but a connection inside will give you useful readings, just not the same as at the battery.

There is a large yellow wire that leaves the starter relay on the fender, comes inside the cab and goes to a splice near the ignition switch. it splits at this splice and feeds the ignition switch and feeds the hot all the time part of the fuse box. I would take your voltmeter and take a reading in the fuse box. If it's low and you want to test the poor ground theory(which is a good one) take a scrap piece of wire and hook it to the battery negative, run it in the cab and hook it to the black meter lead, and then take your readings again. If they are higher then it's definitely the ground. If they are the same, I would start out at the starter relay and start uncovering the harness and the yellow wire. There are splices in this wire out there also, and they are known to corroded sometimes.
