Injector pop tester

I've been thinking about buying / building a CHEAP pop tester. I have seen them for around $150 with a guarantee that they do not leak. I would go with a name brand setup but funds are tight.

Soo, from what I've read ... a leak can penetrate your skin and possibly kill you. This scares the poop out of me. How easily can this happen? Would Plexiglas be enough to stop a leak?

I'm probably worrying to much about it, but my track record for sealing things isn't the best.

Yes, Injection of diesel into the skin can really make you sick or in some cases kill you but. common sense works well when working around this pressure. Never test for fitting leaks with your finger or hand. Bleed off pressure before working on the injecter. The volume of high pressure fluid in this system is very small so its not going to tag you across the shop. Not even going to hurt you pumping it up. What you need to know is the length the fluid may squirt out and the volume thats coming out. Thats very small.

Thanks Gary, that makes me feel more comfortable . I briefly read that some people use a safer test fluid .. I believe it was canola oil?

There actually is a special calibration fluid but its almost the same thing as diesel. Thats what I use in my pop testers. diesel works and its whats going thru the injecters anyway. My testers all have a small filter on the suction lines so hopefully no trash gets pumped thru the clean injecters. The filter looks alot like those found in carb engines. Its a small pleated filter that has a rubber seal where it slips over the suction line. Kind of a nice touch..
