Hello Im fairly new and not sure if this is the correct place for this post so please inform me if not.
I wanted to share this info to help others . I have a 1988 Ford E350 7.3 idi.
Problem / starts runs 10 second stalls. Can repeat if started again .
Noticed fuel gauge acting up ( not accurate)
Problem solved / here is what happened. I thought it was my injection pump or lift pump .
After reserching I found that when I switched fuel tanks the fuel selector valve got stuck between the front and rear tank and stuck there. Caused the fuel gauge to read incorrect and blocked off the fuel return line back to the fuel tanks . This causes back pressure in the injection pump and causes it to shut down after 10 seconds. Found that if I ran the fuel return line into a gas can the van stayed running . So the problem was the fuel selector valve went bad and stuck between tanks while switching fuel tanks . Replace the valve and problem solved. Ford no longer offers this valve as its discontinued. Bought one off Napa for a chevy 6.5 diesel had to modify my fuel lines and rewire the plug on the valve to match wiring on the van.
Hope this helps someone.
