OK so I am driving down the road and will go to shift and my truck will just go to idle, sometimes it does it under acceleration in a gear, also it only last a couple of seconds then goes right back to accelerating or if I shift into the next gear or last gear it will be fine again, it has mainly been between 3rd and 4th but has done it in 2nd. The check engine light will come on if it last a few seconds but goes out as soon as it kicks back into accelerating. What do you guys think. My truck is a 2000 7.3 with a 6 speed and is 2wd. Any help or ideas?:dunno. Thanks guys

I should have mentioned I have already replaced the acceleration sensor (what ford calls a TPS) I was thinking maybe the idle valadation switch or the idle control solenoid but I am not sure. Any one know how to test these 2 units?

The idle validation switch will cause this for sure. Check the fuse for it, to make sure the connection is tight. It is a 3amp fuse in the fusebox under the dash. It will cause a CEL when the pedal is pushed down if the switch is not working properly. Also try lubricating the switch. It has a little dust boot on it that might be dirty or dry which may be causing it to hang.
